If you’ve never seen a psychiatric provider before, it’s normal to feel nervous. Knowing what happens ahead of time can make it a lot easier.
Before your visit
You’ll complete intake forms online before your appointment. It helps to have a list of your current medications and supplements, any past diagnoses or records, and your insurance card handy. For telehealth, find a private, quiet spot with a good connection. You’ll need to be in California during your visit.
During your visit
Your first visit runs 45 to 90 minutes. We’ll talk about what brings you in, your mental health history, physical health, sleep, relationships, substance use and what you want to get out of care. There are no wrong answers, and you can share at your own pace.
Building your plan
Together, we’ll create a plan that may include therapy, lifestyle changes, lab work or medication. You’ll always have a say in your care, and medication is never required.
After your visit
Follow-up visits are 25, 45 or 60 minutes, typically weekly to every 2 to 3 months depending on your goals. Between visits, you can reach us by phone or email, and we respond within 3 business days.
Visits happen virtually via HIPAA-compliant Zoom, or in person at our San Francisco office upon request.
